About us
About us
In this typical two-story residential building in Erzsébetváros (Elisabethtown), erected in the second half of the 19th century, you can meet the past and the present of the Jewry of Budapest.
On the ground floor, in the atrium covered with a glass roof, you'll find our present: represented by contemporary artexhibitions, concerts as well as literary events and lectures on our gastronomy.
The permanent exhibition presenting the history of the Jewry of Budapest is located on the first floor. You can learn about our past here in a unique way by visiting apartments and workshops fully furnished in the style of times long gone. You can peek into the home of a well-to-do Jewish bourgeois family, the den of a rabbi, the workshop of a seamstress, the atelier of a photographer or the simple studio of a poor menialworker. Our exhibition presents our history of more than five decades, covering the past between the end of the 19th century and1944/45.From the time of inclusion to exclusion.
Captions and informative tableaux are provided in Hungarian and English.
